About me

About me

I always loved drawing and painting as a child and loved art at school, but gave it up in my teens to concentrate on more ‘academic’ subjects. I only really started painting again in my 50s when my sister-in-law took it up as a hobby and encouraged me to do so too. From 2012-2014 I attended evening classes where we practised drawing, watercolours and acrylics.
When the pandemic arrived, I was working part-time as an adult tutor of ICT. I used the time spent at home during lockdowns to experiment with different painting styles and decided I liked combining block colours in acrylics with pen outlines. I liked this way of painting as I found acrylics really difficult to blend, and I loved using bright opaque colours with clean lines. At the end of 2020 I retired from teaching and now spend an hour or so most days creating the semiabstract, colourful landscapes that define my unique style.
